Zumiez Stock Goes Up A Little

by The Editors on November 30, 2006

How great would it be to be the analyst who “covers” the action sports industry. You’d get to write stories just like this one in BusinessWeek. “Zumiez Inc. shares rose about 7 percent on Thursday, a day after the company reported surprisingly strong November sales, giving the sporting goods retailer a strong start to its fiscal fourth quarter.” Then tomorrow you could write the same story in reverse. “Zumiez Inc. shares fell about 7 percent a day after reporting a 7 percent rise.” Or maybe we’re just bitter because we don’t own any.

The Caps of Brixton

by The Editors on November 30, 2006

Prod Brixton MThese Brixton hats are showing up everywhere. . . even on Ashley Simpson, however, that shouldn’t stop you from getting your dapper on. If you’re the kind of action sports guy who wears Dickies, flannels, and likes to imagine yourself throwing gang signs while standing next to your perfectly pinstripped lowrider, then this may be the hat you’ve been longing for. Then again, you may just like cool hats. And this qualifies. Certainly.

The Book of Micah

by The Editors on November 30, 2006

Former TransWorld Media editor Micah Abrams lays down his theories about old media, new media, and Time Inc’s sale of Transworld in his blog. He hopes Active Interest Media buys the company because then maybe he’ll get his job back. He’s a skier, however, his writing skills make up for his obviously aberrant predilection for substandard snow sliding devices and the fact that deep down inside he is still a print donkey.

Kirkwood Gets an F

by The Editors on November 30, 2006

The Ski Area Environmental Scorecard grades ski resorts on their environmental impact. Leading the group of western resorts was Kirkwood Mountain resort with an F thanks to too much real estate construction, out of boundaries riding and potentially ruining 1.5 acres of wetlands. Other under achievers include C-students Mammoth Mountain, Sierra Summit and Sugar Bowl. Sierra at Tahoe and Alpine Meadows are apparently teachers pets. They got As.
