We knew that sooner or later Consolidated’s Birdo Guisinger would drop into the blank arcade and start screaming the truth at the top of his lungs. As usual, he gets directly to the bloody point.
Hey, Shops. . . How about telling the companies you buy from that you’ll stop selling blank and shop decks if they stop selling to corporate mall chains and sporting goods stores.
This ad will reportedly appear in the next issue of Slap Magazine. (Click the image for the large version.)
Consolidated makes and sells blank boards.
Consolidated, are just trying to get exposure anyway they can, still saying “don’t do it” (when most skate shops tell you that the shoes help keep the lights on, and Nike are doing tours, sponsoring pro’s, doing ads ect) and now they are going against all the other skateboard brands!
How about Birdo you stop selling to the core skate shops that sell Nike’s? After all “Just don’t do it” It seems to me that it’s just marketing with no real substance; they are just trying to get noticed, and selling blanks? No respect, weak as……
I like blanks cause I can paint my own graphics on them. I bought some from consolidated and they even had a sticker on it that read “CONSOLIDATED DOES NOT SUPPORT BLANKS.
We make them only to take away sales from companies who rely on blanks. Blanks don’t support pros or ams, they don’t support magazines, and all in all they don’t support skateboarding. If you buy this blank, at least your buying it from a skateboard company. But we’d rather you didn’t buy blanks at all.
Consolidated skateboards have been supporting skateboarding for as long as they have been around. They helped to organize getting skateparks in every community, they helped people become aware of the large sporting goods companies trying to take over the industry. They are probably one of the only companies who are in it for the skaters and not their pocket book. Seems like people want to complain about consolidated voicing their opinion because they didn’t and haven’t got the sack to do it. If that isn’t loyalty to the industry I don’t know what is. They call it like it is and don’t let big business push them around. People can learn alot from Birdo and consolidated. Shops sell blanks beacuse they have to compete with the mall shops(who don’t even skate) because skateboard companies lower their prices for the chain stores. If you ask me the skateboard companies who let big corporate retailers in are the ones at fault.
I agree 100% with Birdo… Tony Hawk is all against blanks, but you know what? He has a line of boards in Wal Mart now… Yeah, that really supports “core” skateboarding.
why is consolidated then selling the BS shoes to core shops for like 80$ if they are not in it for the money.
And also, wasn’t consolidated the company that spraypainted boards wioth the cube on it. I don’t understand.
Okay here it is …kids from families with money will alwaysw buy decks with there favorite skaters images…skateboarding is now in the midst of its most marketable time ever …the sport that I have been a member of for the past 30 years is now also the most expensive it has ever been …a grphic laden deck costing over a 100 dollars is just not economical ….lets not forget the poor kids of old punks like me …old punks who have supported skating for years…my kids needs a new deck too and if I can get him a good deck fer 20 or 30 versus 100 buck that is what I need to do Tony Hawk ….remember we haven’t all made billions on video games …some of us have just continued to skate cause we luv it …and taught nieghborhood kids to ollie or kickflip cause we want to see them happy …let us who need it haqve a cheap deck
Give somebody a fish, they can eat today. Teach them to fish, they can eat for a lifetime. If the “mega-king$hit skateboarding is popular right now, hop on in here (or over here, more like it) and get some, fake some, sell some – no matter, nobodies paying any attention, nobody gives a fuck what happens, it’s amazing!” type of vibe is your thing and you feel like you seriously can argue with the simplicity and rawness that Birdo and Consolidated bring, then homie, you are letting something run you when you should be running something. It used to feel like getting smart was just that you rode a skateboard. These days… man it’s a whole different trip. If I were a kid just starting to skate right now, I’d be SO HYPED on a company or person having the realness to spell it all out. I’d rush out to skate with such a juiced feeling of knowing that there are companies out there that I want to support. From the ones who started it to the shipper by the roll up door. Solid as fuck, I’m down and we’re rolling. In or out? It’s that simple.
