According to outside sources, skate photographer Pete Thompson has left Swell.com's skateboarding site Monsterskate.com. Apparently his departure has something to do with being paid less to do the same job. Are more exits on the way?

Billabong USA Launches New Website
According to a press release (and the front page of the site) the new US-targeted site will launch today at noon. The scariest line from the release: "Billabong-usa.com uses Flash 4 and Generator technology on Macromedia. . . and some experimental navigation." On Macromedia? Huh? Experimental navigation? How about just trying some functional navigation? (It's 2:50 PM PST and the site still has not launched.)

Skateboarding as Modern Dance?
Okay, I have to admit, this sound pretty gay. Scott Wells has created a dance piece titled, "One Fell Swoop: The Art of Skateboarding" featuring the skateboard stylings of Clifford Dickinson, Jesse Hotchkiss, Angelo Lugo and Jymi Shores. According to the SF Chronicle "the dancers come off better on skateboards, than the skateboarders do on their feet." Ouch.

It's the press release that all resorts are sending out this time of the season. "Yeah, we're 100 percent open and we have great snow." Unfortunately, skiing and snowboarding just aren't that cool anymore.

In a complete and utter lack of foresight or understanding the city of Carpinteria's has decided that those caught riding their "decks" in off-limits zones downtown or not wearing safety gear at the city's skateboard park will face citations, fines and having their skateboards temporarily confiscated. Of course, scooter riders will continue to go unscathed.

A new action sports site in the mix. Strange use for the domain pie, seems like Marie CalendarÍs would be a bigger source of income from this domain, but don't let that stop you. Pie.com is a very well designed site that is slick and easy to get around. It's a bit empty at the moment, but well worth a short look.
