Kohl’s Department Stores Partners with Gravity Games® and Gravity Games® Amateur Skatepark Series

STAMFORD, Conn. – June 15, 2004 – Kohl’s Department Stores and the Gravity Games®, owned by Outdoor Life® Network, today announced an exclusive partnership that will help bring the excitement of action sports to fans across the country.

As the “Official Apparel Sponsor of the 2004 Gravity Games and Gravity Games® Amateur Skatepark Series,” Kohl’s will offer fans an interactive Gravity Games experience through the Urban Pipeline Interactive Street Course to be featured at the Gravity Games, September 15-19 in Cleveland, OH.  The Interactive Street Course will give fans the opportunity to test their skills and style on a course built by the same designers behind the Gravity Games competition street course.

Urban PipelineÔ is Kohl’s new, private clothing brand offering a cool, fashionable alternative for young men.  As part of the sponsorship, Kohl’s will participate in other on-site promotions such as Urban Pipeline T-shirt giveaways, and receive on-site signage and an area to display Urban Pipeline apparel at the Games.

“We’re excited to be part of the Gravity Games and Amateur Skatepark Series and for the opportunity to bring the Urban Pipeline brand to life for shoppers nationwide,” said Julie Gardner, senior vice president of marketing for Kohl’s.  “As a family-focused department store, our goal is to provide quality merchandise that appeals to the whole family.  Urban Pipeline reflects the active lifestyles of young men and offers shoppers another great clothing option at an affordable price.”

The Gravity Games Amateur Skatepark Series, a nationwide series of more than 25 amateur skateboard and bike competitions, also will be supported by an Urban Pipeline in-market print advertising campaign.

"Having the support of a major national retailer like Kohl's speaks to the strength of the Gravity Games brand," said Gavin Harvey, president of the Outdoor Life Network.  "Kohl’s Urban Pipeline brand fits perfectly with the tone of the Gravity Games and their support will provide great exposure as we lead up to the Games."

Entering its sixth year, the Gravity Games features more than 200 of the world’s best professional action sports athletes. The event, which is expected to draw more than 200,000 spectators to Cleveland’s North Coast Harbor, also includes performances from some of today’s top recording artists such as Jane’s Addiction and Simple Plan who performed at the 2003 Gravity Games.  This year, OLN will broadcast more than 20 hours of exclusive coverage of the 2004 Gravity Games.  Check local listings for dates and times.

Local amateur winners earn a trip for themselves and a guest to the 2004 Gravity Games in Cleveland, September 15-19, to participate in the Amateur Skate and Bike Finals on Sunday, September 19.  Local amateur winners will compete against one another on the Pro Street Course for top honors - the 2004 Gravity Games Amateur Skatepark Series crown.  Amateur athletes interested in competing at local contests should visit www.gravitygames.com for a complete schedule or contact the local skatepark for more information.
