Nick
Nicholas III Kicking Ass?
At
a December awards dinner when Gotcha/ Bluetorch /
Broadcom investor and tall guy Henry Nicholas III
said a special thanks to "my competitors who let me kick their
asses," we don't think he was speaking about the action sports
media or apparel industries? The Standard gives an overview
of the current state of Broadcom.

O'Connell
Nabs Wildcard Spot on ASP Tour
He finished 40th last season, but Pat O'Connell is not down
for the count. The ASP has given Pat a wildcard spot in the
top-28 because he was out with a knee injury for three months of
the tour. Phew!
Crossrocket Launches
Swell.com limped another
wounded pony out onto the online race track last week with their
final installment of "e-category leaders" with the words,
"You call this a website?" followed by another insightful
excuse for not being ready: "By now you've probably clicked
around the site and found that some of the buttons don't take you
anywhere, others take you to "Coming Soon!" pages and that there
are still some bugs lurking in the shadows." Congratulations.
You must be very proud.

Boy

While posing for a photograph a wave swept a 13-year-old Chinese
boy into the ocean at San Francisco's Baker Beach. After 20 hours
of searching his body has not yet been found and the search was
called off.
Dave Carnie's View of TWS
"I mean, it's no wonder that [sic] magazine doesn't have shit
worth reading in it. They have no balls and nothing to say. Just
a bunch of sputtering excuses crammed between some pretty photos."
-- Dave Carnie on TransWorld Skateboarding magazine
in the editorial of Big Brother's "The Worst Issue Ever."
Surfin'ary
To Be Updated
Trevor Cralle, the Berkeley resident who blessed the surf
world with his dictionary of surf slang has updated the book for
the new millennium. It now features over 4000 different words you
don't need to know.
Gotcha
Glacier Retail Space Filling
With the addition of Active Ride Shop, the retail sector
of Anaheim's Gotcha Glacier is filling up according to planners.
Groundbreaking is now tentatively scheduled for March. Anyone want
to bet on this?
Dot.com
Duds Wrap Up
It was a terrible year for Internet startups and the Associated
Press was nice enough to make a list of all the failures, and
checked it twice. Unfortunately, our favorites weren't even big
enough bombs to make the list.
Quiksilver
Stock Takes A Beating
Quiksilver's stock fell 27% to $16.13 after the company warned
investors about a weak 2001 due to the flailing French franc. Analysts
are still strong on Quik thanks to Roxy's global domination
and Lib Tech's strong skateboard sales. (Okay, we
added the Lib Tech comment.)
