These
are the Chronicles of Famous Surf Writer Ben Marcus and his trip
into the Wilds of the Alaskan Frontier.
Latest Update: September 30, 2000
Excuse me, have you seen a guy named George Nikitin?
Downtown Anchorage, from the airport. It is kind of San Jose-ish.
Didn't
proofread this one, too excited.
Just
another roadside glacier on the road between Valdez and Anchorage.
All that's missing are the French horns and the big chick with the
horned hat and breastplate.
A six inch tidal bore cruising over a sand bar.
Driving
further along I saw this running alongside the road. I should have
slowed down to check the speed, but I got all excited.
Maybe not that exciting a photo, but a very eerie thing to have
coming at you. A lot of force behind it, and the noise is spooky,
too.
You can barely see the splash on the right. This this hit with more
fury than a wave that size should have. Again, spooky.
The aftermath of the bore, with a nice view up Turnagain Arm. The
tidal ranger here is 35 feet. Second highest in Ameria.
