FEBRUARY
20, 2001 10:45 AM. KINKOS IN SAUSALITO
Slept
in front of the old apartment on Mar East Street last night, in
the van and I was actually comfortable. I guess if I'm not in
sub-zero weather, that van is tolerable.
This
morning drove from Mar East Street and up into Belvedere, tracing
the path that the doomed heroine of my murder mystery is going
to run in the first chapter of Strangers on the Internet. Her
name, for now, is Virginia Small, and she is suffering from a
severe case of real estate envy. As she runs through Tiburon and
Belvedere she fantasizes about running naked and invisible through
all of those houses, to see how lives there and learn all their
secrests.
She
also fantasizes about having the money to live in one of those
fine houses with a view of the bay and San Francisco. The real
estate lust is so strong, it goads her into killing her husband.
So
I'm soaking all that up, and now I'm going to drive to Half Moon
Bay and hook up with Eric Nelson and Curt Myers to help them with
their Mavericks video. Not sure how I can help, but I do understand
story structure and all of that.
That
drive down from Crescent City yesterday was pretty spectacular.
The area frm Ferndale into the King Range is spectacular, as rural
and beautiful as anything in Alaska or the Pacific Northwest.
Can't
wait to get back up there.
I'm
gonna try to find someone from here to go fishing with me, but
I think I knwo the response I'm gonna get.
"I
dunno man, lemme go ask my wife. She kinda funny."
"I
said I know, everybody funny. Now you funny, too."
One
of my internet friends is going to drive up from down south to
hang out and get "creative inspiration." Oh dear.
I
told this person I'm a broke, out of shape, hobo, but that doesn't
seem to be a deterrent.
Gotta
go drive across the Golden Gate Bridge, then look for Doc. I have
an idea for VH1 called "Myths, Legends, Rumors and Lies." This
would be a series looking back on famous Legends and Rumors in
the rock world. For example, the whole "Paul is Dead" campaign
of the early 70s, in which there were a bunch of symbols and thigns
in Beatles albums suggesting that Paul McCartney had died.
Also,
on the original "Roller Coaster of Love" there is a blood-curdling
scream in the background. When i was a kid, the rumor was that
a girl was killed in the recording room and ti made it onto the
soundtrack. Silly, but persistent rumor at the time.
Then
there's the whole Dark Side of the Moon/Wizard of Oz thing, which
is pretty cool. If I can think of about 30 others, maybe VH1 will
have enough for a series.
I
want to go throough doc to get to Chris Isaak to see if he has
a VH1 connection. Chris was recently featured in "One Hit Wonders"
which I thought was a little unfair. Chris Isaak rocks.
That's
all for now. Big plans with $11.38 in the checking account.
I'll
have less when I pay for this Kinkos session.
Bye
bye.
