Latest Update: September 27, 2001 by Ben Marcus

11:03 YUKON TIME THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 27, 2001 THE LIBRARY AT WATSON LAKE

Yeeeeeeaaaaah! Got money. Out of here. $300 appeared in the bank account so I just got CAN$300 cash and put CAN$107 in the gas tank. Holy cow.

In the library now sending a few things: the updated version of the Santa Cruz story and other stuff. Edits are coming in.

My latest heckler is ńDezyî on Aggroville. I think his name is Phil and he works at Plantronics and he seems to be a guy who desperately wants to be on the Cool Bus and he thinks that being a loud-mouth online idiot will get him there.

I'm here looking at all these Americans waiting in line, some of them pushing carts with moose horns on them, most of them pale and out of shape and a lot of them spouting "USA! USA!" rhetoric and vowing revenge on Osama bin Laden and The entire Muslim world and I'm thinking that it really wouldn't be too hard to hate the average American. The average American, as they are here in Anchorage airport, is an ignorant dolt who couldn't find Afghanistan on a map with both hands.

Another look into the darkside of BM.

I sure hope that none of the families of the 7,000 men, women and children that died in on 9/11/01 ever have the misfortune of reading this spew.

Your a total dick BM. Get the hell out of the U.S.A you traitor.

BTW BM...

...if I ever find your sorry ass in Santa Cruz I'll personally kick it...and be sure the boys will be heads up on your quote about our country.

Consider that a threat you traitor.

He also came up with some fiction about me asking him to be Art Director of SURFER back in the early 90s. SURFER had an Art Director and I was in no position to recruit anyone. The things people will say and do to try and Be Somebody..

Buddy...

...check this out.

BM met me. He tried to recuit me as his art director for Surfer mag back in the early 90's. We chatted at a CWC. I was a early_adapter desktop publisher doing 4 color seps to Lino's since the mid '80's and BM was looking to transition from traditional paste up and stripping to digital type setting and Mac based 4 color DTP. His art director had just quite and he was fishing. I never followed up because I have a REAL JOB .

BM...I know who you are. I know your face.

And when you're anywhere near Santa Cruz, always know who's around you.

-Dezy

Someone tell this guy that no one cares what I do and no one cares what he does and he should just go back and forth to work every day like the meaningless drone that he is, and try to be happy.

HeÍll read that, I think.

Hi Phil. CanÍt buy a thrill? Take a chill pill. ThereÍs trouble at the mill.

Why do people dislike me so much? IÍve spent the past three months helping everyone I could: flat tires, money, rides, etc. I guess thereÍs just a difference between the real person and the writer. And that goes both ways.

And thereÍs just a lot of frustrated, angry, semi-intelligent worker bees like Phil and Mike at the Fish Processing plant who are watching the world go past them, and need to vent.

People should be More Like Ike. He is charming everyone in the library and it is a perfect fall day in the Yukon and IÍm set to drive back down the Cassiar. Probably wonÍt make it the whole way today, but IÍll be in Smithers by tomorrow, hopefully to get more corrections on the Santa Cruz piece.

The Municipal Park guy in Smithers will be glad to see Ike, and I may go after a steelhead or two. Now is the time.

HavenÍt heard from Scott at TSJ or Fred van Dyke, but thatÍs the way to do these things. Let them percolate.

Guess IÍm out of here and down the road. IÍll miss Watson Lake a little.

The bar was fun last night. Hope I get a book deal for the Santa Cruz book and can find a similar situation in Montana. Sitting in a smokey bar listening to good country music is a fertile way to get things done, believe it or not.

Outta here. Got to drive the Lost Valley of the Cassiar.
